UK Parliament passes the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024
On 23 May 2024, the UK Parliament passed the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. The Act came into force on 1 January 2025. Under the act, the CMA will be able to short-circuit the court process and decide for itself whether there has been a breach of consumer law and what the business must do. The act also enables the CMA to directly impose fines of up to 10% of global turnover or £300,000 (whichever is higher).
