Procter & Gamble accused of "greenwashing" in Charmin toilet paper consumer lawsuit
A new class-action lawsuit filed on 16 January 2025 in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington against Procter & Gamble Co. accuses the conglomerate of intentionally misleading consumers of the massive environmental impact of its Charmin toilet paper, alleging P&G makes environmental promises that mask its widespread deforestation practices. The lawsuit alleges that these practices include sourcing wood via industrial logging practices in sensitive Canadian boreal forests and sourcing only a fraction of its wood pulp from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests. The lawsuit brings a claim for fraudulent concealment and the violation of state consumer-protection laws relating to fraud, unfair competition and deceptive business practices.
